Just bought a set of 2012 ksyrium elite wheels and the front is creaking really badly at the front when loaded, out the saddle. Is there a solution to solve this problem???

I have the same problem with a new pair of Mavic Cosmic Elites. Have mentioned it to the chaps at my LBS (I didn't buy the wheels there) and they suggested I run the wheels for a 100-200 miles and then pop into see them if it hasn't resolved itself.

Bit more preload on the front bearing, alternatively return to the shop or return to the online shop

Ive just swapped a few things out on my bike. Chainset, wheels, seat and stem. Half way through my weekend ride I've started getting a real bad creak when pedaling out of the seat under load.

It sounded like the BB so Ive swapped out the BB/chainset to no avail, removed seapost and rear wheel but neither of those fixed the problem.

It just so happens the wheels are Ksyrium elites and after doing quite a bit digging it seems quite a common problem and can apparently usualy be fixed by greasing up the ront skewer. Im going to try this later and see how I get on.

Worth a try for you if you havnt allready done this.

Greasing a skewer won't fix the problem... you can grease the thread to avoid the nut getting seized, but the skewer is not a rotating part and the hollow axle which hosts it does not rotate either, so greasing it is clearly not the solution

I assume he means grease the drop outs, rather than the skewer. Cleaning and greasing any interfaces is always a good start.

Sounds travel along the frame, so it's often hard to tell where the creak is actually coming from. If you have spares (ie. difference QR/wheels) then swapping stuff over is often a good way to eliminate sources. If you only get sounds when you are out of the saddle then my default guesses would be: headset, dropouts, spoke nipples

Dropouts don't need to be greased. The source is the hub, possibly the bearings need a bit more preload, it's a common problem on these wheels

Sorry yes I did mean the clamp on each end of the skewer and also either side of the removable axle cap.
I've just done this over my lunch break and it has resolved the issue I was having.

Have a look at this link and scroll down to Jody's Mavic wheels creak fix.

It may well be the bearing preload. But creaks can come from the dropouts, and dismissing this outright is not helpful - especially when it's a 2s job to do it.

Going to try all suggestions tonight and see how I get on, will let you all know how I get on.

    Cheers for the help.
  • I've had a set Kysrium SL's for 3 years now. Initially I had the same problem, as soon as got out of the saddle the front creaked like hell - it drove me crazy. After a lot of fettling, I realised that by tightening up the front QR really tight the creaking stopped. Not great when you've spent £600 on a pair of hoops though. The Mavic QR's rattle as well so I replaced mine with a pair from Planet x

My rear Kyserium creaked at the end of the winter so I oiled the spoke nipples and that solved it.

Is that what 400 pounds buy you these days?
Wheels where you have to lubricate skewers and nipples?
Lubrication of non moving and not threaded parts seem a bit pointless, but if it works....

+1... every once in a while I get some weird creak from somewhere on the bike and a bit of oil usually cures it. I'm of the opinion that any metal to metal contact, even between non moving parts, can creak.

One of my rear Ksyriums creaked for a bit after a spoke rebuild, it settled down after about 200m. Very annoying when it clicked and creaked though.
