Hi
Does anybody have any experience with this bike, or any with Bottecchia in general?
Considering purchasing this as an upgrade to my current bike and would appreciate any views good or bad!
Thanks

emme2 owner here :-) i've only got good things to say about the bottecchia I got, looked at the super too but man in shop managed to talk me into the emme. super 8 looks like a nice frame though, not made in Italy just so you know.
are you looking at a complete bike or going to get frameset and build yourself?ARTHUR

Thanks for the replies.
I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Super 8Avio - 3 to 4 weeks for delivery, but I got a fantastic deal so I can cope with that.2012 Bottecchia Super 8Avio 105

i was looking at the super 8avio. it would've probably been my second choice if i was ever going to buy anything but the canyon i went for. mainly because, within reason, i wanted to give the lads i knew my money"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0

Keihoop, that looks fantastic - why are you selling?
I got the other colour scheme, white with black highlights ( I'll post pics soon )
It came last week after 5 weeks of waiting and I'm very pleased with it, the finish of the frame is very good.
It rides very well, nice and stiff but really comfortable as well - but then again this is what the frame was designed to be like, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised!

Miklosh, where did you buy from? If you are in the UK then you could have gone to Fatbirds.co.uk. The website says warehouse stock delivery in 3-5 days, (though I don't know if that means they have them in stock in their warehouse or that it will take that long for them to get it in).
Was it a complete bike or a frameset you went for? Does anybody know if you get a seatpost with the frameset.0 -
Campagone
I am based in the UK yes, and I bought the complete bike in 105 spec (my aging focus is 105 and it has been faultless) with Fulcrum racing 7 wheelset and Deda finishing kit.
My plan is to put the fulcrum 7s on the focus and get some fulcrum 3s for the bottecchia.
I purchased the bike from Chain Driven Cycles is Sligo, Ireland (not to be confused with chain reaction cycles) as the owner was extremely helpful re sizing, spec, etc, and was prepared to offer a discount. More importantly, the price quoted was in Euro, meaning with the exchange rate I saved another 20%.
I was informed about the delivery time when I ordered the bike, CDC has to order it from Italy first, it then had to go to Ireland and then me in England. But it was definitely worth the wait!2012 Bottecchia Super 8Avio 105

Hello Miklosh,
WOW, that is one pretty riding machine you got there. I just purchased the same bike coming to the USA from Hungary, however it has yet to arrive. Mine is the other color theme and has Campy Athena groupo, which I am not really knowledgable about at all.
I am actually thinking I like your colors better than mine, but this is what was available. I am building a Sarto Davanti myself as soon as the frameset arrives, but it will be a slow process. I am more of a Shimano person so will think about some of their new gear.
I lived in the UK for a number of years when I was in the USAF. I really loved it there and was lucky to have been stationed there twice. I was just outside of Oxford and just loved it. I still have my old, very old Peugeot that I have had for a very long time that I used to ride around Oxford on. Loved it for sure.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new bike and log tons of miles (kilometers) on it. Take care, be safe and enjoy that pretty, pretty piece of art.
Cheers,
Howie0 -
Hi Keihoop,
Your frame is the same color scheme as the one I am waiting for, but the wheels are nothing like what you have. Those things look sweet. Why are you selling it if you don't mind me asking? Looks very nice. Good luck and ride safe.
Cheers,

Hi All -
I am now the proud owner of this Bottecchia SP9 Athena 11speed EPS.
Firstly, if anyone has any doubts with Campagnolo - try it before you knock it!
Secondly, from a professional point of view Bottecchia are a great company to work with and aren't over commercialised and run by accountants. They have a passion for cycling and this shows!
If anyone in the South of England are looking into Bottecchia, get in touch and we can arrange a demo ride from my shop in the Surrey Hills.
Best,

A bit late I know, but FWIW. I've had my 8avio for two years and of my 11,000 klms 4,500 of them have been on this bike.
I am very pleased with it, it's stiff and light and I can happily do long distances on it pretty much pain free, the geometry is erring on the comfy side as it was designed for 'sportive' riders. But don't let that put you off! I just took a lot of spacers out from under the stem and it is now a great club bike.
I got the Campy Athena Fulcrum 5 version. My first upgrade was sliding on Fulcrum Racing Zeros and replacing the saddle with what my back side is used to, a SSM regal E.
I'm pretty big, 6'3" and between 83-86 Kilos (sorry for mixing imperial and euro!) but have had no issues with this, the bike is very planted downhill, and the steering seems very neutral, powering through corners is a real joy as it tracks beautifully. While the wheels have an impact on this, the acceleration is positive and rapid, and on the hills the bike is 'frisky' even with my weight. There's not much this bike doesn't excel at, but that was what they were aiming at I guess. But it nothing seems to be compromised, it does do them all really very well.
If you have any issues with ego then there's a problem with it being a relatively unknown brand, but if you are happy to ride a 'boutique' bike with all the advantages of not paying a premium for the logo, then it is well worth considering. I will undoubtedly be back at my LBS (dealer) for another one next year when it'll be three years old.
Nutshell: beautifully finished bike, loads of component choices for your pocket, great ride with lots of audax capable mile munching potential, but still very nimble and fast in the corners and up the hills (other wheels play a part).
Any downside? I'd have loved to have used 700 25s but the clearance is just a tad too tight for my confidence.0 -
Holy thread resurrection batman!
Looking at a Bottecchia bike, possibly a Super8avio or a SP9 supernova......my concern is if the position is too racy! I have a bad back so can't be too canted over with an aggressive geometry...
Anyone got any views?....0
