Hi all

I'm off on a 700 mile trip with some big hills and a tent on the panniers and want to change the cassette on my bike to make the hills a little easier.

I've got a Scott CR1 with the standard 105 (double) currently 11-25.

Does anyone know if I can do a straight swap here for an 11-28.

I'll push my luck and also ask if anyone can give me any clue on which of these might be compatible/best:

Shimano Ultegra 6700 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=39014
SRAM PG1070 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=40237
Shimano 105 5700 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=50454

Any help much appreciated. Thanks :P :P :P

the sram 1070 range works fine with 105, but the 105 cassette is cheaper so might as well stick with it

you'll need a new chain to go with the cassette, the old one will be too short

you'll also need to adjust the rear mech to ensure adequate clearance with the 28

if your rear mech is 5700 then 11-28 will bolt straight in, no probs

if your rear mech is 5600 then you may need to tweak the tension screw so it clears the 28t sprocket, and make sure you chain isn't long.

Either SRAM or Shimano cassettes are fine. I find the Shimanos shift better but there's not a lot in it.

Thanks maddog 2. It's a 5700 as standard from the bike as I bought it :P

even cheaper, the tiagra 12-28 works with the 105.

Got the Sram one fitted (I was too lazy to do it). All working out just fine - thanks for the help :-)
