finally decided to go for a canyon 29er , after what seems hours of surfing the web , i am a reborn biker and have been riding the basic entry specialized hotrock , and want an upgrade . however had settled on canyon al 8.9 29er but the dt swiss fork seems to divide opinion on web , and now canyon announce a new cheaper model with fox 32float ctd . cheaper price but is it a better spec , bit of a novice in this department and would really appreciate any advice on these matters, and would love to hear about anyone who has swiss fork , thanks in advance , so difficult to choose

If you posted links to the spec more people might comment on it.

Not a lot in it except the forks. I've no experience with DT Swiss forks, but if it was my money I'd take the cheaper model. The Fox forks are good, and probably easier to get serviced/parts for etc. I don't think the DT Swiss are any better.
And save a wedge of cash for medical bills.
But others might come along and disagree on the forks.I don't do smileys.

yes that was my thinking , hopefully not cash saving for 'medical bills ' unless i need a shrink for for spending £1k on a bike but hoping for a superior biking experience for my mid life crisis , excited like a kid to get my hands on one , although a seven week wait0

looking at my local specialist bike stores , they all cater for fox forks but no mention of dt swiss, so clearly an obvious advantage for servicing etc... , 7,9 seems a far more convenient choice , will i notice a superior ride to my hardrock suntour sr forks , i am after a more comfortable ride and hope the 29er will give me that with the higher spec , do you get what you pay for especially as canyon seem to be good value for money?0

thats good to hear , i was tempted by the nerve xc 7 , but think a full suss bike would be under utilised for the trail rides i do , although very tempting and love the bikes , and could be wrong, as the xc7 looks great value too.good to hear i can getter a superior ride to my hardrock , which got me back into biking , mainly do red trails and family routes with speedy son0

do the fox float ctd evolution 29 forks require loads more maintenance than the dt swiss xrm, looks like there is a big difference in maintenance time scales , anyone know about this0

Personally I'd go for the 7.9 (although not too keen on the blue flashes everywhere...), mostly because of the fork (I'd probably change the brakes to XT sooner rather than later though). Fox does need a lot more scheduled maintenance than the DT Swiss ones (although I think this has improved for 2012 and if the CTD's are 2013 it might be even better). I wouldn't lose that much sleep over it though - I've never serviced any of my Fox forks and they've always worked fine and never have damaged stanchions etc. I'd be more concerned with the performance and from what I've read the DT Swiss aren't great (at least the model on the 8.9), there's not much out yet on the CTD performance but I can't see it being a step back from current stuff.0

yes thats my thinking , was just getting concerned that fox forks needed tons of maintenance , but have heard of quite a few niggles with the dt swiss arm and seems to be a feeling harsh on the small stuff , I've ordered the 7.9 and think ill stick with that , also looked at the 9.9 with fox terra logic , but doubt id need them for my riding and save some cash ,0
