Rim widths?

Have stuck some Schwalbe Black Jack "large volume" tyres on my old rims (Trek 4500 circa 2002) .... look great, work Ok, but rim seems to look a bit too narrow compared to big tyres. Do I need to get wider rims for large volume tyres?
Are they going to stay on the bike over big bumps?

    So what is "larger" volume?

    Can't tink they will be an issue.

    Tyres seem to be much bigger than the originals .... both are 2.1 ... but new ones are a good 20mm taller
