Ok so am doing a charity road ride 80 miles ish on my trusty hardtail in a few months , i am looking to buy a new set of tyres as the ones on at the moment are far too heavy and chunky.Am looking for a tyre that will run well on the road for 80 mile plus a few training rides and also be able to use this summer for a bit of everything singletrack, trail centres canals etc . Dont want to spend too much either , Is there a tyre out there that fits the bill or close as , all suggestions welcome tx guys

Not really get some cheap slicks.

I'd also get some cheap slicks for that sort of distance - makes a huge difference not have those knobbly bits!

If you really insist in doing your ride with off road tyres then I'd go for kenda small blocks or similar but slicks are they way forward.

I did a 107 mile charity ride and I would have really struggled if I didn't use my road bike. If you can get hold of one, use that.

If not, Schwalbe City Jets in 1.5" flavour do the job admirably for a £12 tyre. If you have wide rims they also come in 1.9". Don't forget if you get the 1.5's you may need smaller tubes.

If you really want one set, semi slicks are a good compromise. I ride them on my hack bike in the summer and they can be really good on the road if you pump them up hard, and still run ok in dry conditions if you let some air out. In fact, when its really dry hard pack they are a weapon of choice. Don't expect to get anywhere when its muddy though. Maxxis Wormdrives are pretty good, and light enough too. Can be had for 17.99 online.

Think i will buy a pair of schwalbe city jets for 26.00 , as you guys say slicks is the way forward and they look decent and cheap enough. Thanks guys :D
