Another new build underway, yay :D After loving the ride of a hardtail again with my Rock Lobster 853, i decided to get the frame i have been hanckering after for a very long time...a Cotic Soul :)

I managed to get a ride on one recently and loved it, just a little bit slacker than the Lobster and a little lighter as well (although that was more to do with the build), so on the blower to Cotic wed lunchtime and it was here waiting for me when i finished work today, top service!

And a post to put it on.

Just need to strip the Heckler for bits this weekend and hopefully the LBS will have my wheels ready. I have taken the Bulb/D521 wheels off'v the Heckler already, they are stripping old ones down and re-building with Crest rims and double butted spokes (the D521 rimmed wheels tipped the scales at 4.9lbs without tires/tubes/QR's or sprockets  ).

First thing first, i will need to clean the Rocky ready for sale on FleaBay.

    How is it lighter?

The bike i rode felt lighter, but probably due to the build, not the frame. Lighter forks and wheels for a start.

Just needs a shakedown ride to settle everything in. I had a few 'mares with the front wheel though, i had my old Bulb hubs rebuilt into some Stans Crest rims, only to find out after shelling out the dough for the job that i couldn't get a 15mm convertor for the front  So back to the LBS for a new pair of wheels sat evening, then finished the job this morning.

    Full spec includes:
    Cotic Soul frame, lrg orange
rockshox Reba RLT 120mm, maxle light
Hope ProII evo with Mavic 717 rims
Pana Cinders (for now, will get something a bit smaller/faster next week)
    XT '11 drivertrain
    XT '12 brakes
    Hope BB
    Hope headset
    Easton EA70 bars
    Easton EA70 seatpost
    Thompson stem
    Fizik Gobi saddle

    Thoughts/comments welcome.....

Ha, thanks for the comments guys :) Bit of a Soul love in on the forum at the moment :D

Gotta admit i'm loving mine though, what a superb ride. After a few tweeks to the ride position i think its dialed in perfectly now, handles sweet as a nut, nice and responsive. I just need to take it over some rougher terrain this week to realy test it, but i'm not expecting any suprises.

It is almost exactly the same weight as my Rock Lobster, but it feels completely different on the trail and i feel much more confident riding it (the slacker angles make a huge difference). Although the back end does feel a bit wierd at first (feels like the back wheel is loose in the dropouts  ) once used to it it just feels right. Had a few squeeks that needed sorting hub flanges squeeking against the rubber seals in the hub and the BB making a racket, but now i cant wait to hit Afan this week to really give it the beans 8)

I wouldn't go smaller tbh faster yeah but not smaller I am running 2.25 crossmarks on mine, fast rolling and comfy too :D
Just out of interest, how tall are you and what length stem did you go for??
mine is a 70mm Thomson and i am 6'1" ish feels ok to me.

Same. 6'1" with 70mm stem fits a treat (ran the same stem and a layback post on my heckler which fits well). Although I do roll my bars further forwards than most people, which extends the reach a little, looks a bit odd but it puts the grips in a more comfortable position, so I go with it on all my bikes.
