doing a budget on one carbon 456 build, before buying the frame I wanted to check if my groupset would swap off ?

donor bike is trek 4300 2002

aware the seatpost wont fit, but hoping the bottom bracket, cassette, cranks, gears, wheels and brakes will all move over?

cheers

already have a rockshox recon forks brand new so those will go over using a new headset for the C456

Most of the drivetrain will fit (though the front mech is very likely the wrong size).

The brakes will not, as you have V brakes - this frame is disc only. This means you will not be able to use the wheels either when you get disc brakes.

Also as the gear levers are attached to the brake levers, you will need to replace the gear levers too when you get new brakes.

Is going to be costly, I'd start afresh and get new kit.

PS the recon will fit with the right headset.

    cheers for reply

the brakes are disc already - it has been converted at some time

front mech - maybe a broader clamp fitting will fit onto the 34.9 tube?

the merlin cycles deore groupset is tempting but pushes the budget up, hence would like to swap over existing gear

You can't chaange the clamp, you'll need a new front mech, they're pretty cheap though.

clamp is pretty flexible, but looking at crc the front mech's are not bad

cheapest I see are BB mount rather than frame mount
