Hi

I currently have a 2008 Marin Mount Vision, which I've found to be a great bike, but am thinking I fancy a new bike but can't make my mind up, I have thought of the following, but would be interested in everyones opinions or alternative ideas?

Lapierre Zesty 914
Lapierre Spicy 916
Norco Sight 1
Canyon

Many thanks :D

Yeah £5k gives you a lot of options so mostly depends on what/where/how you intend riding on it. Something like the 916 will give you a lot of versatility as it's light enough to use for all-day/XC stuff but if that's all you intend doing then you're better off with a 914 or even shorter travel. If you never intend doing alps type stuff then 914 is probably the best all-rounder on your list (and would be my choice, but I'm biased to Lapierre's :p ). You'd struggle to spend £5k with canyon but the top of the line Strive or Nerve AM would give you a very nice bike.

You need to ride them if you're spending that kind of money.

With 5k you could get a very, very nice Ibis Mojo HD, in either 140 or 160 and have a supremely versatile bike. the new yeti sb66c is available in XT spec for just under your budget, leaving you room for a reverb, which is a must on bikes like this. the Norco is a great bike, they are bombproof and the sight rides very nicely apparently. would leave you alot of change too!

In abit of a far out suggestion, if you don't mind having a single chainring, then the whyte 146x should be top of the list. its spec is incredible, it rides amazingly well and frankly if it was out when I bought my HD, well I would have had one instead

Just out of interest as riding before buy comes up a lot when discussing bikes bought online such as Canyons, how many £3k+ bikes are available to ride before buying? If you got your LBS to build you up a Mojo would you typically have been able to test ride one before you committed any cash?

Incidentally, I had a 2008 Marin Riftzone, replaced it with a Canyon AM and with the money I saved from going down the Canyon route I also bought a Genesis Core 50. It just meant I had a bike for the more gnarly stuff and also one for smoother trails and winter riding. Both bikes are superb. You can never have enough bikes!
