Hello
Researching my first road bike. I have settled into the 1800-2200 range....the two bikes that have caught my eye are the Felt F 6 @ $1900 and the Cannondale CAAD 10 @ $2099
Mostly riding for fitness and eventually some long rides up to Bear Mountain or Montauk ( I am in NYC area)
I am a bigger guy, 6 1"/235 So not sure if this factors into a carbon vs aluminum debate.......
1. Two obvious differences are the Carbon vs Aluminum frames
2. Also, is it better to by one of the best Aluminum frames vs buying a low end Carbon frame......are most Carbon frames created equal?
3. The Felt F 6 = SCRAM APEX and the Cannondale steps it up to Shimano Ultegra.......is the step up in components worth the lower frame (if it is even considered a sub par frame)
4. Wheels.......I'm lost, from what I have read the Felt F6 wheels are not great.....not sure about the Cannondale
Here are the Specs on the Cannondale:
http://www.rei.com/product/827836/canno ... -bike-2012
Here for the Felt:

Any advice, opinions.......other bike suggestions........all would be helpful and appreciated.
thanks

Get a Cannondale, the CAADs are great, so are the supersixes and synapses.0

As an out and out CAAD fan, you will not be disappointed with the Cannondale.
I also have a carbon and a steel bike.0 -
if the F6 has the same frame as the F5 then its a great buy, the F5 has a very good frame, that said the CAAD 10 also seems to have a great frame... test ride them and buy the one you like best
EDIT: just noticed that the F5 is a different frame, F6 does not have a full carbon fork and does not have BB30. Have you seen what Boardman, Ribble or planet X have to offer?0 -
If you are new to cycling.....you may want to consider the synapse as well as caad10....the synapse, has slightly less aggressive geometry than the Caad.....depending how flexible you are...the caad may be fine for you, but worth trying the synapse while looking.
The only reason I say this is, I have known 2 people who have been keen to buy a caad, i have shown and let them ride my own and they decided the geo was not right for them.....it's a personal thing and you may not get a resoponse to suit you over the net.0 -
I recently went through a bike upgrade, and decided to go with the CAAD 10 on the basis that it was better for me to get what is one of the best ALU frames instead of a cheap carbon one.
So far so good - I'm very happy with it.0 -
I don't know much about the Felt, but the CAAD 10 is a phenomenal frame. One of the best alu-based frames you can buy. Incredibly light too. Consistently brilliant reviews both in the press and from their owners.FCN 3 / 40
