Planning on doing the WHW (substitute for Kirroughtree 10 being cancelled) and I need to get hold of a route map and profile from somewhere.

Want to do it north to south so it feels like we are coming home as live in Glasgow!

Anyone got any advice or sites I can visit

Cheers

Harvey maps do a water-proof route map but you won't need one as it's all waymarked.

The section from the top of Loch Lomond (Invararnan)to Inversnaid is a long carry/push/carry.
I've done it North to South but will do it again the other way missing out the section north of Inversnaid by catching the ferry across the loch and re-joining the way at inverarnan.
Good luck on the route in a day.We did it over 4 days(after doing the Great Glen Way the previous 2 days) but will probably do it in 3 next time.

I prefer to enjoy myself, enjoy the surroundings and have a laugh :D
If I want to slog out 100 miles in a day I'd get in my roadbike and still hate it

Inclined to agree with you, of course if it wasn't for the boredom I'd be doing that kind of 24 hour stuff all the time ;-)

    Thanks......very useful. Cheers.
Planning on 7th July as a replacement for the cancelled Kirroughtree 10.
A mate did it last year in 12hr 10mins so we have something to aim for!!

You don't need a map for it as it's nearly impossible to get lost.

I did it exactly two weeks ago, taking 23 hours due to a serious lack of motivation and being tired to begin with. South to North with a midnight start, it was definitely my best ride ever.

  • So what is the height gain on the WHW in total? I did a search for it last week but didn't find any corroborating numbers that sounded plausible. One site said 4500m but couldn't find anything to back that up.
I'd really like to try it IAD too but 4500 is too rich for me. I only just managed 3950 on the Fred and that was on road.

    cheers

Whats the general opinion on north to south...........heard its actually more difficult than south to north coz of all the carrying around loch lomond??
