How hard is is??
Ive got an Acera groupset on the way and it comes with a FCM391 crank set.
Is it just as simple as taking the top ring off and fitting a bash guard or do I need to move the rings further out to allow a straighter chain run on both rings??
If I have to move the rings out whats the best way to go about it and can any one recommend me a bash guard

Are the rings riveted on or are chainring bolts used? If the former, you will have to drill them off and buy new bolts0

Bolted from what I can tell but yeah I see that point. But do you have to move the rings any further out to allow a straighter chain run or is it not necessary??
edit: yeah defo bolted

No, just take outer off, fit bash, check the bolts you have are long enough, then adjust front mech so it doesnt try to shift to the missing ring.0 -

Should be fine. Can you not source one from UK though?0 -
Not tried at the shops was just for reference purposes tbh, will look now
Cheers for the replies0 -
You don't have to have a bash, just take the ring off and adjust the high limit screw to stop the mech moving too far.I don't do smileys.

i did this a few month ago with my truvativ noir crank. removed the big ring to run it 2x9.. and fitted a bash ring.
if your lucky the bash will go straight on, you may require longer bolts to fit the bash, you may get away with using the ones that come on the crank ( i did)
you might have to file either the crank (spider thing) or the bash guard to get it to fit...
again i got away with it and the bash fitted with out any fileing...
and like dodge said adjust the limmit screws on the front mech to stop it over shifting.www.bearbackbiking.com

Coolio, Ive got the bonafide Shimano one on the way, £15 from the bay of E. I know I dont need it but I think it looks quite cool the Saint one and even though that is a complete contrast to how I thought when I was a kid, a bashguard being the first thing that came off even before the wheel reflectors. Im thinking now, im spending a spunkload of cash on this bike I wanna protect it a bit for when I crash.0
