Don't see the point in buying a used set - you might run into all the same problems unless you know they are A1!

would this extend to buying used from somewhere like flatout cycles? i've been eyeing up a set of xt brakes from them.

Used? If so have they been bled,do they have new pads, come with rotors, adaptors, etc?

How much? Some of the used prices I see for brakes aren`t much less than new brakes from the German sites..................

If you are at £80-90 or more I reckon I`d find the extra for a set of SLX M666 or XT M785 from Rosebikes.

actually, doesn't matter so much, just realised they were the older XT775s (complete with discs pads etc). yeah, i've seen the rosebikes site, a pair of SLX M666 excluding discs were about £110.

In my experience the M775's were a pretty dire brake. lacked power modulation were a pain in the arse to bleed and had terrible heating issues. Added to this they weighed more than a small boat, had the most awkward lever shape in history and just generally sucked. If you did a blind test with the new style shimano brakes you would never think they came from the same company.

Well they arrived in the post today. Gave the pads a quick rub over with sandpaper and cleaned my rotors with IPA. Initial feel is good. Bedded them in with a few dozen hard stops and by the end it was practically throwing me over the bars.......going out for a good blast in the sunshine tomorrow. :D
