  • Really annoyingly, UK banks charge a fortune to transfer money to a European bank account. However, within the rest of Europe it's cheap/free and common practice.

A rip off is what it is and so we have to go through this charade of credit card transactions which is horribly and exceedingly easily open to fraud.

Every bank charges to send money internationally, be in with the EU, or outside. I always had to pay to transfer cash to Germany from my Austrian bank account, and in some banks you had to charge to transfer to other banks within the same country.

Even if they're all Euro currency banks within the EU?

To my knowledge, yeah. Could always be wrong though, there could be banks with partners inother countries. The fees are not exchange fees though, they are admin fees.
  • Possibly this 2nd purchase of yours is of a relatively much higher value?
Some stores practice that - ask for verification when the purchase value is over a certain amount (usually 300 pounds & up)
