It's a BIG marketing exercise. I'm sure it's ok as a frame, but I've not seen/read anything to indicate it's the world-beater that we're supposed to think it is. Seems the PR dept worked overtime on that one.. let's hope the engineers did as well..........................

I'm sure it's a great frame.
My opinion is that the 'world beater' will be the athlete not the frame.
And the athlete will ride the bike of the sponsor they choose; they will be more worried about their reward package and their team mates than the name on the frame.Simon0 -
I think it looks great and would buy it on looks alone .Surely it would be hard work producing a bad bike at that price.Ridley Boreas

Just a blingy Allez isn't it?

It's a triumph of marketing.
Of course!
I bet most of them are ridden by nodders, who've bought them purely because Cavendish used to ride one.0 -

Sounds a pretty good reason to me!
People only complain about the cost when the price is way out of their budget. If money wasn't an issue, I'm sure most people would splash the cash on their favourite hobby; even if they had very little time to ride it!Simon0 -
Its the most aerodynamic frame you can buy, it looks good, what more do you need?
Yes, most people will never really test their bikes to the limits, but its not a bad frame, tests prove it is the best frame.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -
I'm sure its a great frame - but how do you prove something is the best ? And by what margin ?0
-
You test it the way that they do. Aero tests. Seeing as that is nearly all that matters for most riding. It was marginally better than the Cervelo s3/s2 in terms of drag.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

You orchestrate those tests, the ones conducted by magazines who benefit from all the multiple full-page advertisements from specialized every month -- now just how much more objective could it possibly get than that?........................

You mean the same ones that take Cervelo, Trek, Colnago ads?
Good one mate.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -
okgo wrote:You mean the same ones that take Cervelo, Trek, Colnago ads?
Good one mate.
Yes, those same ones.. and if you look back at magazines, historically there's a direct link between the amount of advertising money spent, and just how positive the product test results are.
There's also the sacred-cow effect in action which protects some of the big names: if, for example, you roasted either Spec or Trek in a review, you'd piss off the high percentage of readers who inevitably ride one..
I worked in publishing in another industry for a while..same rules applied..It's the nature of the beast unfortunately..........................

well that started a debate, as pointed out i do not need this frame, i just want it due to how it looks and hopefully how it performs . i dont think at my level of performance a slight increase in drag is going to make any difference . part of my passion for cycling is the build which is all to regular, but as long as i can afford it it doesn't matter.

Amen brother. At last, someone with the same view as me
If you can afford it, then buy it. If it's the sort of bike that makes you want to go out and ride it then for F's sake buy it. You'll only wish you had bought if you don't.
I still look at my bike now and get a twinge
I love riding it, hammering out the miles. I'm no where near up there with the quick boys in my club, my bike is way too much for me, but I don't care, at least it puts a smile on my face everytime I sling my leg over it.
Anyway, back to Venge. Never ridden one. The guy that started our club has just got one, the Venge Pro. Now, he can get away with riding this sort of bike as he's raced all over Europe. It looks the bollocks. If only it wasn't too small for me I'd be pestering him for a spin.

has anyone ridden one ?
If you have the money, buy one... but make sure you cover the thing with pure luxury :-)
'bristol_pete' on here has one (sometimes found in the cake shop, but mostly found actually riding!)... from what he's said in the past... he loves it. And BP has had a lot of nice bikes.Simon0 -
its going to have campy record 11 2012 , campy shamals 2012 dark label/mavic cosmic slrs , easton ec90 bars ,deda locomotiv chaniset and selle slr carbon saddle , i think that should pair up o.k.
by the way moved back to campy after a 15 year break and love it with a passion much better than the sram red i had before people should try it , it make you feel speciallast month wilier gt -this month ? bh rc10 -

I did indeed have a Venge. However, for the first time, I actually had a bike that I think and felt was too good for my skill set and actually unwarranted. The Venge is a monster of a frame of which when you give it more, it asks for more and ultimately, due to my honesty and my ability I decided it was not the right bike for me. I was going out solo for a quick two hours and holding speeds of 21/22 mph on my own and the bike wanted more and more and more. I have never been that kind of rider really, but if you are Boonen-esque have a think. But I liked it, it rode well, the BB is super stiff and rides unlike any other bike out there in so much if you want to sprint everywhere, which the bike is designed for then go for it, it is a great machine. I am back on my tarmac and equally as compelled by that which I actually feel suits my skill, location and personality more.
Cheers.
Try to never let the permission of others sway your buying decisions. Life is short, live it your way on your terms.
Finally, one caveat about the Venge that few pick up on is the relatively high stand over height which in turn makes the bike seem bigger than it is.0 -

A mate was selling one in the small ads section a week or so ago - full record 11, hardly ridden.

CW last week hinted in Grapevine that a rider of a leading team may change back to his favoured machine next year. I assumed it was Cav, although who knows for sure.0 -
well connected mate.
I'd put money on Sky riding Spec next year. I certainly wouldn't be rushing out to buy a Pinarello in Sky colours/being a Spec if I didn't like Sky. More controversially, it'd be worth doubling up that they'd also be wearing Nike rather than Adidas.http://www.georgesfoundation.org

Never thought of that, could be some bargains to be had. I will stick with the Focus Izalco Pro 3.0 my good lady has just given me permission to buy later in the year!!0 -
Are Nike back in cycling ? I thought they packed it in when lance did ?0
