Getting collarbone pinned

On June 1st I'll finally be getting my collarbone pinned, just over a year after I did it. (It's a hypertrophic Malunion)
My question to anyone who has had this done is, how many days after the op were you able to comfortably use a pen? ( I'm asking because I will have an ongoing design project that I have to do, but I don't want to delay the op as I still can't ride and it's not without pain everyday.)
