Hard wheels

I'm sick and tired of going through spokes - roughly one every 2 months. I deliberately bought a cyclo-cross because they are harder wearing, apparently.

What are the options? Are there tough wheels/ spokes? I see some fixed speed bikes with 'plastic' wheels - 5 to 10 spokes. Are they much heavier? How much do they cost?

My commute is 13 miles each way, across London, including a 'serious' hill half way. I don't take the bike off road.

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

A badly built wheel with the best components will be rubbish.

A well built wheel with 'nothing special' parts will last for ages.

What wheels have you got? Are you particularly heavy?

What bails87 said. It's all in the build.
