I recently bought a Cube Agree GTC Pro, my first road bike, and it came with DT Swiss CSW RA 1.0 wheel set..... when out on a ride the other day I noticed the wheels on my girlfriends Specialised Ruby were significantly lighter....

I haven't been able to find any specification for the these DT Swiss wheels but I'm wondering whether upgrading to say a wheels set like Mavic Kysrium Elite would actually be an upgrade and benefit, the benefit I'm after is speed.

I'm a novice triathlete, and although I'm not really a contender, if new wheels could give me a few extra mph I think it would be worth it.....

Thoughts?

If I'm miles off, please feel free to say so ! :-)

Thanks
Jon

Your wheels are not in the DT catalogue... the rims seem loosely based on the DT R 520 so I expect them to be in that weight range, around 520 grams each... it's neither a feather nor a brick. You have 24 spokes front and rear, which should guarantee enough stiffness with those rims... the hubs are probably the bottom range in the DT range, 'cause noramlly they cost a fortune. Rough estimate, your wheels are probably around 1800-1900 grams, in line with wheelsets retailing at 150-200 pounds (Aksium, fulcrum 7 etc... )... so good enough for a beginner.

Contrary to people's belief, a light wheelset won't make you into a mountain goat, but it will be faster in rides where you have to accelerate a lot (up and down, racing, dodging traffic). In a flat Time Trial a set of Ksyrium won't help you much

I bought the the Agree pro a couple of weeks ago and I find the wheel/tyre combination a significant upgrade on my Boardman Comp which has Mavic CPX22 and Vittoria Zaffiro tyres.

I certainly have no plans to upgrade (at the moment  )
