Hello all! Just built up a FM028 from Carbonzone (RB002 as they call it). 12k gloss non-ISP in 54cm. Bare frame 1185g and fork (untrimmed) 409g. Built with Campag Centaur 10s groupset and Campag Zonda wheels. Total weigh in was 7.3kg. Very impressed with quick service from CZ! Order to delivery in a week! Initial ride was good. Seems like it will be an awesome Sportive bike. Rear triangle quite stiff in the chainstays, yet compliant on pot holes. Some torsional flex at front end when out of saddle. BB didnt need threads chasing or facing. I'm 5'9" and was trying to match the geometry of a bike I already have so went for the 54cm. Sorry the photo isnt great.

Cheers,

    What inside leg are you?

What is the stem length, the saddle looks quite a lot forward on the seat post? I thought the TT length was fairly short on the FM028 so is the stem too long?

Keep us posted, green bar tape is nice with this frame. Classy.

Ah I see you got a De Rosa frame, for half the cost! Good move :) Looks sweet, interesting tape

Hi Davidof! Funny you mention the seat. Its a hang over from TTs and tweaking position to feel what is right and ending up in a nice aero position. Good spot, I'll tweak it back! Toptube is 543mm horizontal (effective). I've got a 32" inside leg. Stem is 100mm.

Hi Fatini! Yeah, it looks a lot like the De Rosa R838 but its different in the headtube. The Ribble Stealth is the same as the R838....yes, actually identical, both made by XPace in Taiwan. The Ribble boxes say R838 on them, so I've heard.

This is a non-proprietry frame from Baolijia Sports Equipment in China (mainland) bought through Carbonzone. I used to work in composites and I gotta say I'm very impressed at the workmanship. Any manufacturer who is willing to show off a 12k carbon unpainted has their laminations down pat! It looked like the main structure underneath is actually 3k plain weave and well consolidated. Frame and fork was just over £300.

    Nice.

Awaiting my FM028 with ISP at the moment - I went direct to Baolijia rather than through Carbonzone, but pleased to hear that you think the quality is good!

Cool! Are you going to post some piccies when it's built? I'd be keen to know how you get on with Baolijia, cause I'm looking to get an FM015 in the future for a build for a friend. Did you save much over the Carbonzone prices?

    Good luck!

I intend to post pics. It's the ISP frame so it's a little more expensive anyway. Including shipping, headset, and a custom paint job (metallic gold!), it was £350, take away the shipping and it was £300. I got Dengfu (who I think are also Carbonzone) to quote and it was about £40 or 50 more than direct. Not a vast saving, but enough to make it worthwhile. Looking @ carbonzone on ebay, you'd be looking at £390 inc shipping for a painted one, but in their standard red, black and white. Add about £35 to that for custom...

Communication has been very good. Painting has been a little slow, but it's due to ship Wednesday I think.

Sounds like an uber-bargain! Hope the build goes well! Dengfu is one of the main manufacturers, along with Hongfu and Baolijia. I think Carbonzone source from whoever they can get them from, but not sure. My Baolijia came from Carbonzone.

    Keep us posted!!!

I believe, coz I read it on the Web, that Hongfu Dengfu, Miracle, Carbontrade etc are all made in the same factory by FlyBike. Certainly when someone from RBR visited Hongfu they were shown around the FlyBike factory. So Hongfu, Dengfu etc are resellers or agents but the product is the same.

Looks like I'm going to end up with a red, black and white one...painting in the metallic gold seems to be causing some kind of problem and I neeeeeed (well, want) the frame for a trip to the Alps in 5 weeks. If I wait for the gold it could well be Xmas!!!

Already have tracking number, despite "choosing" revised option only a couple of hours ago, so at least it's on it's way.

My only worry (and it's not that serious really) is that I've bought gold qr's, chainring bolts, front mech adapter, bottle cage bolts, stem spacers, frame adjusters and lockring for the cassette. Oh, and gold jagwire cables and bar tape. I'm sure that it will look fine, if a bit bling, which is a word that I especially hate ;)

Awaiting customs clearance for 2 days now. I bet it bloody well arrives when I'm on holiday next week... :x

Still, if it's released before Thursday I should still get it on Friday, but I'm not holding my breath...

Be Very Careful with this seller !
I have bought to him several items for differents bikes for our club
We have send us a lot of money (frames, wheels, stems, saddles ...)
A lot of problems of quality, too bad
    For example :
The stem don't tightening the steerer ! very Dangerous
The seatpost can't go on the frame (the frame inside is not round, there are bumps !
The saddles have broken many time
The Rims have bumps too then when we brake the caliper move

    We have contact baolijia Carbozone
They have ask us to go back the items and they will ship us new items
But more then 11 months since and no news of the supplier, no answer of the seller
We have sent more than 300 mails to him
    Seller Dishonest
    don't buy anything to him

Ooh that's an interesting first post!
  • I'd ignore that post, with the rather poor English

I have an RB004 bought about 2 years ago from Carbon Zone (Ribble stealth/De Rosa R838 frame) and it's fantastic. I ride some rather broken up roads and been down many a unseen pot-hole and even had a couple of quite spectacular offs and the frame, other than paint scuffs which I just repainted the bike again is perfect and looks and rides like a brand new bike still after two years and probably 10,000 miles under it's belt.
