Giant SCR3 2007- Cracked Frame, unhelpful service...

So I bought second hand a 2007 Giant SCR3 about 5-7 months ago, and now there are 2 cracks in the top tube and seat tube- running horizontal from the top tube, straight through the weld, and round the back of the seat tube stopping about 1cm from the center. Same on both sides.

I called up Giant to talk about it being replaced, and was told that they would only look into it if I was the original owner of the frame, and as it was so close to the end of warranty, they wouldn't be able to do anything. This is a bit of a nightmare for me really, as it took me a while to buy this bike (I'm still at college), and am in the middle of training for a Half Ironman, as well as this happening just as I was really beginning to enjoy being out on the bike!

Are there any other options left apart from just going out and buying a new frame? You can see photos of the crack here- http://www.flickr.com/photos/59757060@N06/sets/72157629723786826/

Piers, Its Russ here (D-one sailor) I cant help you with your cracked frame mate or your training needs, but you are welcome to borrow my Trek 1200 for your ironman. Obviously it will depend on your size. Won't help you with the build up but maybe the event as a last resort be a knightmare if you had already entered and had no bike???

If you want a warranty, buy new.

Seriously, 5 year old bike and you're the second owner, little wonder Giant weren't interested!

Good luck with the Ironman all the same.

I'm sorry about that frame, but I'd be interested to know how much seat pin is in the frame - I suspect that the crack might be because not enough was.

Only mentioning it so that it won't happen to you next time around (if that's what caused it).

There was 14.7cm of seatpost in the frame, was the first thing I checked, I doubt it caused it looking at it...

You should be able to pick up a frame of similar quality for no more than £100. Stick an ad in the wanted section.
    More problems but still living....

I have an SCR 1.0 frame set in pretty good condition. I have it built as a hybrid right now but would rather it went to someone who needs it.

I am sure that Giant put a shim in the seat tube, so over tightening a seat post may have stressed it.

If you are interested, PM me. It is an XL and has never been crashed. I am about 6'3".
