This one has really got me. I'm normally quite capable of fixing my bike but I just can't seem to solve this. I have just replaced the chain and cassette on my Felt Compulsion Two full sus. The parts were a direct replacement for the same parts. The problem that has now developed is that the chain seems to be rubbing on the front mech all the time. The chain looks to be hanging on the bottom of the front mech cage and no matter how low I try and drop the front mech on the frame, it still hangs on the cage. I can only drop the front mech until it hits the top chain ring. I can't see how anything has changed or what has gone wrong. Anyone got any ideas?

Where is it rubbing on the front mech, and in what gears?

Did you shorten the new chain? So it's the same size as your old one

The chain is hanging/rubbing on the very bottom of the front mech, the part that goes around and under the chain. I took a couple of links out to make it the same as the old chain.

The gears are 3x9. The rear cassette is a SRAM PG980 34-11T, the chain set is Truvativ Stylo 6XP 44-32-22T, the chain is SRAM PC971 and the rear mech is SRAM X9.

Somebody did suggest that there was too much air in the rear shock but I have not changed this. Checked it anyway and it seems fine.

Its very puzzling. I can't think what can be different from before to make this much difference. Getting a bit fed up now. I've given up trying to figure it out twice now and taken the Zaskar out instead, but it would be nice for it to be rideable.

Check the height of the mech.

Maybe post a pic. Old chain would be a bit stretched so you should measure a new one properly, not against the old one but it shouldn't make that sort of difference.
Difficult to see how a chain can sag on the top run. Freehub should let the excess run to the bottom. Is the freehub freewheeling?

Tried that. The mech hasn't moved. I have tried lowering it just to see, but it goes too low to go over the big chainring before it's away from the chain

The freehub seems ok. The wheels are relatively new Mavic Crossrides. I made sure the the chain was the same length as the original by laying them side by side and counting link for link. I'll try and get a photo if I can figure out how to add it

What gear are you in when this happens?

Thanksfor the link cooldad. I'll try and get a photo sorted.

It seems to happen through most of the gears, but at the moment I've got it in the middle ring

Middle ring? Much more likely to happen in the small ring surely!

Did you remove the rear mech at all during fitting? If so did you put it back on right as it sounds like it might not be pulling enough of the chain slack up.

Pics of the whole drive train as if there is not enough tension the only culprit can be the part that puts the tension into the sytem. the rear mech.

which may be damaged/faulty or just have the chain incorrectly routed.

But a over view is needed to see what is going on.
