Generic 2nd weekend medium mountain stage at the Giro.
Some folks are going to have tired legs.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
...and who's that Garmin soigneuse? JVs mother?'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0

Hesjedal looking very flaky on the climb there. Been surprised they've been using VDV as a gregario tbh.0

J Rod 3rd for a smattering of PTP points.
LOL at the commentator (?) asking Kelly if this was an Irish stage win? We'll take it. We're easy going like that.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

Did it at Trentino as well. Not sure what it means.
Great balls by Pozzovivo - really pleased for him taking the initiative. I know many GC riders are saving themselves for the last week, but there is time to take it easy next week and this weekend was a good opportunity to take some seconds as well as some good bonus seconds.
He seriously looks about 16 though.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Rujano's ltd edition ride:
And Pozzato's:

Found out (well, I've "borrowed" the answer from the CN forum)
He's taking the mickey out of his own lack of height. He apparently nicked it from Sebastian Giovinco of Parma, a 5'4" soccer player (who may be on his way to Chelsea)

The bottle is bigger than his torso!

Pleased. He's a little shorter than me, though not much, and weighs the same.
Gives us small people some hope .0 -

Feck that - riders like Pozzovivo should be ballasted up to a minimum weight figure. If he had to drag over 80kg around the place like Thor, he wouldn't be quite so flippin' sparky.'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0 -
There are disadvantages though arent there. I don't recall any featherweight GT winners, maybe only Pantani (57kg according to wiki). Don't think anyone would want to take that away from Marco.
He is at a disadvantage in the TTs, on the descents and even on the flat I'd imagine.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Indeed he doesn't seem too confident on the descents and Harmon said during the stage today that Poz isn't too confident of his bike handling in the descents. I think he is going to have to take minutes on several mountain stages to even stand a chance of getting a top five.
There haven't been that many grand tours in the past few years where there has been a GC contender who is a pure pure climber with an attacking style from the beginning of the race, since maybe Rasmussen? I hope he can keep it up, and take a lot of time in the first few mountain stages in the final week, and make it interesting. 20+ seconds isn't bad on a climb like that, although we don't have the super steep stuff like Trentino.
Anyway, it is great to see a pure pure climber with an aggressive style livening up the race.0 -

Surely a 'pure' climber means you're not a climber for the overall? :P
I'd say Andy Schleck is a 'pure' climber, and has an attacking style.
In the '90s against all the TTers, people would have called Contador a 'pure' climber too.0 -

I would say a pure climber is someone who can't ride a decent TT. Contador can, Schleck cannot.0 -

Would you call Pantani a pure climber?...
He was regularly top 10 in TTs. Was in the top three in the final TT in the '98 Tour.0 -

Yes, I would. I think regularly is stretching it a bit, I'm not talking mountain TTs. Where did he finish in the prologue of the '98 Tour, 180th or something?0 -

"Pure Climber" seems to be a description given to skinny riders who don't win as often as they should."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0

I think with Pozzo, his form might not last as his form was fantastic in the Giro del Trentino, a few weeks ago.
Although, Phillipe Gilbert managing to somehow maintain form for month after month, last year, the rule book may have been rewritten on this. Who knows??
I think Pozzo, Basso and Shrek are all vulnerable on dodgy descents so could be some fun there.
As for TTing, if Pozzo comes in to the final day in pink then I guess it depends who is top 5 in the GC. If it's Shrek, Rujano or Rodriguez then no worries. Also Pantani and Heras' TTing sometimes markedly improved when they got a sniff of the Leader's jersey.

Some odd team riding yesterday. Gasprotto really drove it on with his team strung out behind him and then when he pulled off they all just slowed up and let the attack go. Can't work out what they were trying to do!0

Were they trying to set up another stage win for Tiralongo, who them didn't have the legs?0 -
“I’m a pure climber and I think about music to motivate me when I’m racing. I also try to get to the top as quickly as possible to get the climb over with. My favourite climbs are the Mortirolo, Passo Giau and Punto Veleno. The ones I least like are the Zoncolan, the Mortirolo and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. I don’t like wet descents or on dirt roads like last year to Orvieto. I also don’t like the Vivione and the Gavia descents.”Contador is the Greatest0 -
Interesting that the Mortirolo is his favourite and least favourite climb! I assume he prefers one of the routes to another - hope they are going up his favoured side on the penultimate stage.0
