he might eb targetting the tour, olympics and worlds. i reckon gilbert's doing the same and that's the sole reason hehasn't wiped the floor with everyone this year."Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0

Too many birthdays?“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0

He's 34.
Harder to recover from illness & injury at that age.
Hinault retired at 32, Merckx at 33, Moser at 36 - a good age for a pro athlete!, Maertens at 35,
So he's really getting up to the end of his career.Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0 -

Evans was alright at thiry four....
Part of the problem is that he's with BMC.
The other part is that he was ill for most of early spring and doesn't seem to have recovered / got over the illness.0 -

That's what I was thinking. He was very happy at Credit Agricole and also at Cervelo Test Team. Didn't get on so well with Vaughters and Garmin. So is the problem at BMC? How long is his contract with them?0 -
I wouldn't bet against him being good for the Tour though.
S'been a very very long time since he's not won something in the Tour.0 -
Blimey, 2003 was the last year he didn't win something at the Tour! :shock:0

Hope he's back to form soon. One of my fav riders, goes for Gilbert too.0

Isn't his form pretty similar to this time last year?Scottish and British...and a bit French0

He was 8th in Roubaix last year.
I was thinking that. But then he finished 14th this year, not that different. Maybe this is just a typical Hushovd year then?0 -

Yeah.
He's never been all that in spring.
His best was the black cervelo kit year, where he lead it out for Haussler in M-SR and was the only chap still on Boonen's wheel after the first bit of the carrefour de l'arbre - only to stack.
Odd, you'd think he'd be perfect for them.
He's always phenomenal in July though.0 -

Yup, defo!
Think the most impressive was him winning the green jersey in 2009. Not just that he won it, but how he won it.

Was this the day he needed the intermediate sprint points so went on a solo breakaway over some big climbs?“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -

Think he did it twice, didn't he? Once in the Pyrenees and again in the Alps? The photo is from the Col de Colombiere, which was the last climb of the day, so he was behind the climbers, but quite a way in front of the autobus at that point.0 -

Oui,
I was actually thinking about that stage the other day. Spooky. Was a good ride, not many sprinters could have pulled that off.
Three years ago, already?!“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -
