what would you go for, on a mini dh/freeride bike main use will be bikepark duties. (whistler bikepark)
frame is most likely to be a ns soda fr.. (if that helps)
A coil shock
B air shock.
and why ?

It depends on the model - I am more interested in the damper.0
-
Air, smaller, lighter, more easily adjustable (spring rate) and for that usage you won't have the heating effect that has prvented ready acceptance of air for DH duties.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Also depends what kind of shock the frame was designed around. Some make use of the ramping spring rate of air shocks, others expect the linear nature of a coil. Others are a bit more agnostic.0

here's the link to the frame and the shock options..
and thanks for the advice up to now keep it coming..www.bearbackbiking.com

Monarch or Roco? Roco every time!
(Yes, I realise this is in direct conflict with my DAMN YOU MARZOCCHI outlook on life )0 -
Pretty much as they suggest I guess:
For a DH / Big Mountain setup we suggest the following settings: 180mm single crown or 200mm double crown fork, coil shock, long travel and long chainstay settings.
For trick orientated riding we suggest the following setup: 150-160mm fork, air shock, short chainstay and short travel setting. For most pedalling efficiency we suggest the following setup: 150-160mm fork, air shock, long chainstay and short travel setting.
If doing harder stuff i'd want the vivid.0 -
What yeehaa said, match the spring rate to the frame.
NS Soda - nice, would have liked one of those if budget had allowed. Both their supplied shocks are air, so my guess is the frame benefits from the rising rate.
Edit: I went air for my mini-DH type setup.0 -
Hmmm, I've been thinking of getting one of these as well, will have to thrash yours Colin to see if I like it.0

Ask for it without a shock and get a good oneA Flock of Birds
+ some other bikes.0 -
