Just bought a Focus Cayo 2.0.... But..

Ok, I didnt want to start this thread, as the reality is that it kind of is a 'which bike' thread

But anyway.... 10 days ago I bought a Focus Cayo 2.0 - I'm new to the road, and frankly I don't know that much, however, after reading a few reviews and seeing what else I could get at that price point I decided to take the plunge.
I picked up the bike but haven't really had a chance to ride it yet :( - I've only sat on it - I still haven't even got pedals!

So actually, I can't even say that I have used it. Period! :(

Given that I haven't tested it, I can't really argue that there are any detrimental issues, my only gripe is that I am allergic to the colour red, which does feature on the bike lol.

ANYWAY..... I am sort of thinking of returning the Focus because....

...I have since been looking at the Cube Agree GTC Pro, which I think looks seriously awesome and I just wish I had seen it before :(
However, I haven't seen any reviews on it, nor is there a shop near me that stock it.

The change wouldn't solely be down to the colour mind you, as that would be slightly silly (wouldn't it?), I guess i'm fishing to see what else is out there that's better I suppose.

I have 4 days left to return the Focus should I want to.

What should I do?

And which in your opinion has better specs?

Proof that I have actually bought the Focus so that this isnt so much a 'Which bike' thread, even though it kinda is

Just to add... My budget was £1500, which is a heck of alot of money, so ultimately one wouldn't want it to go to waste or do as well with it as I could of, which I guess is the main reason I wanted to ask on the forum.

Specs are virtually the same. The Cubes do have the edge on their looks but Focus bikes look much better in the flesh.
I thought I read that there weren't massive stocks of the Cubes so you could be bikeless for a while if you return the Focus.

That's a great looking bike. I suggest stop thinking about what else is out there as there are always better bikes in one way or another. Get your kit on, take the bike out of the house and start riding it. You are just about to have loads of fun. I'm sure you will enjoy it immensely.

The dreaded 'buyers remorse'! You're not alone, i'm terrible for it. It's too easy to think what else you could have bought, I reckon they'll both ride equally well, Get out on it and you'll probably change your mind.

Just get out and ride it, I have a scott addict r2 which is a great bike but anytime I see a cervelo, dogma etc all I can say is oooohhhhhhh!!! then I jump on my scott and its ooooohhhhhhhhhhh!!!!. Get on the Focus and you`ll soon forget about other bikes.

To be honest, if I were you, I would defo change it. I am a firm believer that if you love your bike, it will make you WANT to ride it more, rather than because you spent lots of money on it, out of guilt.

Plus the fact, all bikes are red black and white. Snore

    Amen to that...
I'm a firm believer in the fact you want to look at the bike and lust after it. I still look at my circa 3 or 4 year old bianchi...and love its looks, thats never changed. Even now, getting ready to sell it, i'm looking at it and thinking...i'll miss you.

FWIW, i seriously considered the Cube, lovely looking bike. On the same note, i disregarded the focus, just didnt do it for me. Nowt wrong with it, theyre both fine bikes...

If it helps, I've had a Cayo for a couple of years and only have good things to say about it - it's a lot of bike for the money. Maybe change the saddle and bar tape if you think it's a bit loud? If you just ride the thing I think you might think twice about sending it back - it's a lot of fun, and cheap enough to be able to afford a decent wheel upgrade etc in due course.
  • That Focus is a great looking bike, I am seut on getting a Cube myself over the summer. I personally prefer the red, white and black Cube models eg agree gtc and agree gtc race and not really keen on the white, blue and black of this years pro model. Although I may change my mind when I see it in the flesh.

Cube and Focus are from the same factory, along with Ghost. Cubes are nice, Focus are nice, Ghost are nice! Like many have said, just get out and ride and enjoy that beautiful bike that you own :)

Thank you all for the responses :)

However, like Coriordan has said, you genuinely feel as though you are riding better on a bike that you essentially worship lol.

Most have said that the spec is much the same, however, if you had to pick one which would it be? I see that the Cube has a mix of Shimano 105's and Ultegra where as the Focus is Ultegra and FSA.

I genuinely prefer the look of the Cube, and it is slightly more unique then the standard red/black/white.

Seemingly i'm answering my own question in this process... But as I don't know the difference, solely looking at the componentry, which is better, even if only by a slight margin?

Well it depends on what matters to you more? Frankly, I doubt you would be able to tell the difference between the two groupsets. Which do you prefer to ride (or just prefer for no tangible reason!) might be more important.

Personally, having not ridden either, only seen them in the flesh, I prefer the Cube. No idea why. Next bike will have to be something similar to the Agree GTC SL. Someone on here just bought the exact one I have been lusting over and I am extremely jealous.
Hurry up and make your decision though, cos the sun is coming out!

Yeh, sun is out here already lol *sigh*

Ultimately I want the bike for up hill riding... And to 'tour' with and not so much racing. Ive been told that the focus excels as a racer and that the cube is better for long days out etc.... Perhaps its all just word though.

If one bike has 105 and the other has Ultegra it's unlikely you'll notice the difference riding but check out cassette/chain prices and then see which one you want as running costs might sway it for you.

Wouldn't really worry about replacement costs. You can happy put a 105 cassette on or Ultegra. I would go Cube as it fits the bill and you like it. What more could you want. Quick, before the shop closes!

I have got the Cube and I have to admit that it does look good in blue, even with me being a Liverpool supporter.

You have to ride it, for the amount of cash you are talking about I would make sure I was 100% happy with my bike.

  • Just go out and give it one ride. You may actually find that you love the way it rides and feels.

When I got my now very broken Bianchi mono q it was the last bike I looked at and only because the bike shop told me to try it. In fact I wanted a orbea. Once I rode it I knew it was the bike for me, it just felt so good and right compared to the others I tried. I bought it straight away.

So just give the focus a go. If it doesn't still have that x factor then send it back.

You can't decide whether you like a bike until it's got pedals on it. What are you waiting for?

    Get out there.

That chainset on the Cube is truly horrible. So you'd have to change that.

So, basically, stick some pedals on and get out on the Focus, cos it's quite an excellent bike.

Out of interest, what is so bad about the chain set on the Cube?

FWIW, low end Eastons as found on the Cube don't have a great reputation.

It is a tripple in the picture. The OP is looking at the Compact double. Nothing wrong with the looks of that, believe me.

  • The cube gtc pro has dt swiss wheels I think. The gtc has Easton ea30 and the gtc race has ea50. Love the look of both Easton wheelsets but not sure how they ride. I think last year's pro had the ea30 wheels.

I believe that you think that. But I hate the look of it. The FSA is much nicer. I don't know why Shimano set out to make these things so unattractive in black. Even my Tiagra in silver looks fine. But the black isn't nice IMO.
