MTB Fitting?

Hey guys,
Getting back into cycling after some time off for laziness... :P
Just wondering is there any point in getting an MTB fitted? My ride seems fine at the moment but reading people that have been fitted they all say the same until after they have it done.
However, most people that get a bike fitted are Road/TT/Tri as there is more emphasis on aerodynamics and speed...
Could anyone clear this up for me?

do you sit in the same place all your ride?
no you dont. so there is no need for a "fitting" but if there is anything that is causing you issues it may highlight them."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I agree with nick, there is no need for MTB fitting (actually, I don't think there is for anything to be honest) unless you have a medical problem and the 'fitter' specialises in that condition.
People vary a lot. There are no magic forumulae that tells you what will fit. You could take a pair of twins, they could like totally different set ups. Or you could take one person, visit five different fitters and get five different results. You don't need to pay someone to experiment with set up and see what works for you.0 -
If the bike is not totally wrong sized for you, and given you're saying the ride seems fine then the only thing of benefit is to tweak the set up and get someone to look at how you ride (on trails, not in a shop).
For that, the best advice would be to go on a skills course as many will assess your riding position, tweak the set up, advise on changes such as stem and bars. That combined with the actual skills are going to be far more valuable than going to a shop and getting a fitting (which personally I would see as being worse than useless).0 -
I'm hopefully going on a skills course if I get the money before they all fill up!
The only reason I asked was that so many places do it and advertise it0
