10 speed crank set on 9speed chain / casette???

Hi , I currently have a Rockhopper with a 3x9 chain set and was wondering if i can run a newer 10speed double ring like SRAM X5 GXP Chainset 2x10spd

Would this chainset work with a 9speed slx mech , kmc 9 speed chain , sram 9speed casette.

    I have a 9 spd road bike with Ultegra triple crankset, no issues at all... Go for it!

    What speed chain are you using for this? We recommend matching the chain to the cassette because of chain width, but have heard conflicting reports lately.

    Also, anyone running 9 speed crank with 10 speed cassette? I would recommend a 10 speed chain, but am interested in hearing performance with a 9 speed chain. (not only that it works, but does it work well)

    So, I have a 10 spd Ultegra triple chainset (= cranks and chainwheels) on my otherwise 9 spd bike. 9 spd chain, cassette and shifters, no problems...
