Hi, Im new to road biking and looking to buy my first road bike
Iv found a 2006 Specialised Allez Elite . Iv been to look at it and its in very good condition. He said the lowest he would take is £300. I told him i would think about it because its a 6 year old bike but can anyone tell me what they think? how much would they pay for it?
Thanks Neil

The latest model is around £900 new.
I have seen 2011 models (still new) for £600 ish
I would say £300 is a tad high, more like £250 to me.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Unless there are a lot of recent upgrades, that seems a bit much to me for a 2006 allez.0

Thanks for the replies, this is what his ad says - Specialized Allez Elite, Shimano 105 brakes and gears, Gossamer crankset, Mavic Aksium race wheels. does not mean anything to me though apart from the Shimano 1050

Having not seen the bike it's difficult to comment, go with your gut instinct - are you happy to give the bloke £300?
The bike is only worth what someone is willing to pay, go and waft £250 in his face & see if he grabs it!I Dont Ride Hills, I Climb Mountains!

Mavic Aksium wheels on the other hand are nice. If they are in good condition I'd consider his price.0 -
Gossamer is an FSA model of chainset and is low (entry I think) in their available range.
Aksium wheels are low to mid range although decent enough can be had for around £250 new. oops typo around £150 newYellow is the new Black.0 -
hi-tee,
Find out was has been replaced on the bike and what is still original equipment. He's obviously replaced the wheels and Aksiums are a good upgrade from the standard fit. I think that if there are a few new bits and pieces on the bike and it's in good condition then it might just be worth £300. As wayneobfc says though, go and wave £250 in notes at him and see how he responds!
Regards, EarlyGo0 -
Spec seems okay - FSA gossamer is their low-mid range (they do have cheaper options) and Aksiums are regarded as decent wheels, if not the lightest. I would be more worried about the age of the components, though. If they've been on since 2006, you might be looking at having to replace cassette/chain/chainrings/bb/cables/brake pads/tyres.0

£250 for Aksiums - where are you shopping?? Entry level Mavic wheelset but fine for the price

For what it's worth I too think £300 is a bit OTT - have bought the 2008 Allez Elite (model with carbon stays & Tiagra mind) for £300 - but that was 2 years ago, so bike only a couple of years old and not 6.0 -
Hi Thanks for all your replys I'm learning a lot just by reading these forums!
I tried waving £250 under his nose when i went to view it but he didn't take it. The ad has now been removed so I'm guessing he's sold it. Nevermind theres always going to be more bikes! Thanks for all the info and help!
Thanks again Neil0 -
a photo would help
