Can anyone recommend decent bike shops in these towns that would be likely to stock decent road stuff e.g. Dura Ace/Super Record?

Don't think there's much in Bourg apart from the usual chain sports supermarkets, you'd probably need to go to Albertville approx 45 mins drive down the road.

There are a couple of shops on the way out of BSM going towards Seez (near the McDonalds). Sport 2000 and Expert.
Last time we were there in 2008, the Sport 2000 shop had quite a bit of gear.

Dunno why, but BSM is missing a trick, as there really isn't a decent bike shop (but bear in mind it's 4 years since we were there !).

We got a replacement fork (26" rigid, for a touring bike) in Briancon for my mate after his front disc brake had ejected the wheel. A look on Google maps leads me to believe it was probably from http://www.mountain-cycles.fr/
It was quite a decent shop, though not that large.

There were also 2 or 3 other shops that were ski winter/bike summer, and a Decathlon

Not that I want to do French bike shops out of business but both Wiggle and Chain Reaction do delivery to France - IIRC not expensive. If you want to deal with a French firm (might be quicker/cheaper) there's www.xxcycle.com

I'm planning ahead for a trip to France later this year - i.e. where I could go if I needed a new part pronto. So in this instance (and ONLY this instance) I'm not interested in online retailers - thanks for the thought though.
