Going to order some wheels but what adapter do I get?

So what is the bike?
Lots of pointless info."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

You need a 15 mm front adaptor and a QR rear, or the 10 mm bolt adaptor.0
-
Thanks chunkers
Could you also please just explain how you know this for the rear? Just so I can learn..
Is there any benefit to have QR or not to have it?
Thanks0 -
I looked at your photo and the specs.
QR is easily good enough, some people think the 10 mm thru is stiffer through the rear.0 -
I'd just go QR, you could buy the adaptor later if you wanted to try. Soz couldn't workout the PM reply.0
-
Just thought. Do you have an axel for you fork?0
-
I do not, I'll buy one?0
-
I've already ordered the wheels and I opted for the 10mm. I can ring and change it in the morning if it makes any difference to getting a axel : /0
-
So you will need a 10mm axel for the rear as you did not get he standard fitting.
You will also need to source an axel for the fork. They are fork specific."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Hi
What was the standard fitting for the rear?
And ok, so it would be a marzocchi bomber axle?
Thanks0 -
10mm QR for the rear frame.
Yes you need an axel for the bombers. Not sure where they come from. But keep in mind that a RockShox 20mm is about 40 quid.0 -
well as Marzocchi make lots of forks with different designs you need on for your fork and year, so a Marzocchi 44TST2 20?? note only Marz. make them.
standad is Qr fitting where all you need is the Qr. while with the 10mm you will need a seperate axle/Qr axle."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Your bike, as with most xc bikes made around that time, originally came with standard quick release dropouts, and a quick release rear skewer. If you put a quick release skewer in the dropouts, you will note that whilst the endcaps are the same size as the dropout area, the central rod is smaller than the hole that it goes through. The hole is 10mm diameter, but the rod is about 5mm diameter.
Superstar and a few other companies now sell axles that have a 10mm diameter, so they fit in standard quick release dropouts, but are supposedly stiffer due to the larger diameter of the rod/axle. To fit these to your bike, you will need the 10mm hub endcap fitting that you ordered, and a 10mm axle from superstar(these cost about £10).
The stiffness increase is not massive, and the axles are much heavier than a standard quick release skewer. Because of this, I would go with the standard qr fitting for the rear.
The rear axle is nothing to do with the front one, and superstar do not sell the axle for your forks.0 -
marz. 15mm axle is about 40 Quid."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Jeez - that's crazy money - over 25% of the bike price. Still a bargain, but not so much now!0

ive got them to change the rear adapter.
which is not the problem here...funny the most smallest simplest thing you think would be cheap turns to be v expensive. ill wait until i can get this axle cheaper. I think I found somewhere that may of had a repo one at the fraction of the cost.
but yea ouch!
i planned to spend £400. but obv now i have a rear wheel that I could sell. and really ive upgraded the bike without having to fork out for a big tag price in the first place. still thinking its gonna be a good bike for a good price. Ill of coarse update what ive spent etc.0 -

there just are not any out there other than the OE ones."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yea I knew that, but wasn't changing the forks and knew about a 15mm axle. Just didn't realise they were hard to come by. Eek0

Good news...a mate damaged his forks but the axle might be saved. Same forks as mine. I'll find out tomorrow0
