Circle of Hope 2012

Rode this on Sunday 6th May. Great event. Not strictly speaking a sportive as no timing chips given out and no timings being done by organisers. Choice of 15, 50 or 100 mile routes. Start and finish in Hope (North Wales, not far from Chester). The 100 mile route went over some of the same roads as last year's Etape Cymru. After the climb of World's End, the 100 mile route went off into the fairly flat roads of Cheshire. Quite a few club riders rode the event. Quite cheap to enter with the proceeds going to Clatterbridge Hospital cancer research fund. Around 200-300 riders rode the event. There were also 3 well stocked food/water stops along the way. Highly recommended event. You can see the route on my blog at: http://chestercyclist.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/circle-of-hope-2012-ride.html

why does this NOT make it a sportive ? --and see thread about "what makes a good sportive" viewtopic.php?f=40007&t=12851792 in which minority see a timing as important

Sorry if this came across as derogatory. All I meant was that the ride was advertised as a Charity Ride, rather than a sportive. Also it was not in many of the sportive calendar lists I saw. I only found about it as a colleague from work was riding in. As I said, the event was excellent, well organised, good feed stops, and great atmosphere. Will definitely do it again whatever it is classed as.
