probably - saddle is one of the few parts which actually has a distinction - it doesn't actually mean a "female" saddle will be right for you, but it's more likely. Saddles are very individual things though.

Definitely yes, women are different shaped to us and tend to have slightly wider sit bones. My wife was fitted up properly for her saddle having, like you, purchased a mans bike, I do not know the model but it was a Specialized gel seat that cost about £24 at Leisure Lakes and she reckons it's a million times more comfortable than the one originally fitted.

The best way to find out is get your bum measured. Any shop selling Specialized BG sadles will do this.

Incidentally this involves sitting on a bit of memory foam and not a sweaty youth with a tape measure :D

I can give you chapter and verse on this as my partner had a lot of saddle issues but still rode 1000s km. Basically there are 2 sorts of saddle. Padded on a plastic/carbon shell eg Specialized BG/Toupe,Selle Italia etc and suspended types eg Brooks and Selle Anatomic both of which are leather stretched over a metal frame. What you don't want is to be sat on your vaginal lips. It's akin to a male rider sitting on his bollox (he won't) so you need something that takes the pressure off your pubic bone and soft tissue. A lot of the womens saddles have a larger cutout and are shaped to accomodate the female anatomy (wider hips etc). Note that shell sadles may get uncomfortable over a ride time as you sink into the padding whereas a leather susspended saddle may not. It's very subjective and it's worth looking at different models of saddle and seeing if you can borrow one or four for a few rides. Your shorts may also make a big difference and your bike position
