Hi guys, about to buy myself a new bike (been a few years) and after test riding a few I' ve narrowed it down to the Scott Scale Elite and Kona Kahuna Deluxe.

If anyone could offer any advice (owner comments would be nice) it would be appreciated, it seems to me that the Scott has the better fork (Reba over the Recon Gold) but are there any major difference elsewhere (6061 / 7005 frame).

Scott Scale Elite

Kona Kahuna Deluxe

Scott has the better fork, and IMO better spec - I like Shimano bits.
Both seem very expensive for what you get, but maybe that's just teh 29er thing.

My head would say something else entirely.

As I said in my first post, they both seem very expensive for what you get. You seem to pay a premium for 29ers.
If you want one, the Scott is an excellent bike, but if I wanted a hardtail at that price I'd probably be looking at one of these if I wanted a racy bike

    But probably one of these

And I ride a Kona, so I'm not pro or anti any make.

Giant XTC 29er ? Came up well in a WMB grouptest in fact I think it won it. Plus Giant seem to hit the specs really well

That Kona is shockingly poor VFM, X5 on a £1500 bike.......The Scott isn't as pretty (shame as their entry level 29er with cheap XCT forks looks great in red/white) but is much much better specced in every area except brakes.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Thanks for the replies all, I'm fixed on the 29er path (not going over the 26/29 or HT/FS arguements in my head again  ) and I'll start shopping around for the Scott whilst hopefully having a look at the Giant.

    Thanks again.
