sore calfs - new pedals?

hey - I am getting sore calf muscles on long down hill sections when I visit trail centres. I tend to stand up on descents and pumps lots but by the end of the day on the final descents my calfs start to hurt - i run with standard spd m520 pedals - should I get a more trail friendly i.e larger pedal surface - or just man the frick up? ;) thanks!

Also of thinking of moving to crank brothers just to help when things get muddy - any suggestions?

    This.......

alternatively you would try moving the cleats back a touch. This might help

Ricardo hit it on the nail. Either you are not as you think in terms of lower body strength for descending, or the cleats are in a weird position.

New insoles for your shoes. Was getting sore ankles and insteps replaced my 3 year old Specialized insoles and problem went away.
