We're off to the aforementioned in a few weeks - with a seasoned group of riders, except for one guy who's pretty new to the sport. Fitness wise he's pretty good, but handling skills are as you would expect of a newbie.

How challenging do you think he'd find the reds and blacks there? Is that just a stupid idea? is it all rollable if you're not a balls out rider? We want him to a) enjoy it and b) be safe

I've ridden Afan, Cwmcarn, Brechfa and Nant y Arian before....how would the above two compare?

Thanks for any advice you're able to throw this way

Hi, Llandegla red route is all roll-able , as is the black to be honest, but for his first time I'd stick with red. My wife is new to the sport and I'd have no problem her having a go at the red.
As for Coed, its all roll-able but the beginning can be a bit hairy.

    Regards

you'll meet nothing at afan or coed -y brenin that's any tougher than afan, CC or brechfa.

llandegla especially, it's great fun, but not too testing - even the black. the 'north shore' section looks worse than it is when you're up there and there's a few drops and stuff but all rollable as said before.

I've ridden Llandegla alot over the last two years, I went back to Coed y Brenin a few months ago, not been for a couple of years. There was alot that I did'nt recognise, maybe it was new. IMO Coed y Brenin is more technical than Llandegla. I've ridden all of the red and black at both. If you take a relative newbie to them both and they ride all of the black without falling off I'd be very impressed..

My mate took a newbie to Cannock, he left with a broken collar bone

You have to do the black if you go to Llandegla, the rest is really boring. The black is super super easy aswel. The only bit that scares new riders is a high (1.5m wide) wooden bridge that you can just walk over if you don't want to ride it.

Coed y is more tech but again pretty straight forward stuff.
