Valve Extenders

I have just got back(been rescued by my wonderful wife) from my sunday club ride, the first using my new 60mm carbon rims fitted with valve extenders, what a disaster...rear extender sheared off flush in the inner tube, so although i had a new long valve inner tube with me i couldn't use it !!!
Am i right in thinking you can get inner tubes with 80mm valves and that i can use them without valve extenders ?
Shame really, felt like a pro setting off and ended up walking, in socks for a couple of miles to the nearest village.
Any advice gratefully accepted.

go for tubes with long valves, much less hassle
the conti ones have removable cores, they are shipped a bit loose, use a core tool or pliers to make them *tight* before you use themmy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Just make sure that when you fit the long valved tubes that there is enough valve showing to get a variety of pump heads on - theres no point having a spare tube if you are stuck miles away because you can't get it inflated with the neatrest available pump.
How about just carrying a spare tube with a an extender on? Means that you can pick up normal length tubes at a fraction of the cost of the long valved and also have the peace of mind that you know that its all going to work fine when you need it to.0
