Hello!
Well...i have checked wiggle and madison.co.uk and all they have are expensive lycra shorts and jerseys. is there an alternative to wearing lycra and still riding a road bike for commute? i have a lycra shorts and jersey but find that the tight fitting really shows my curves. i'm 16 stone and a little concious about my appreance on the bike.
any suggestions?

I don't find lycra is quite so critical for tops (others may disagree), just as long as you wear some sort of wicking material next to your skin. How about the usual padded lycra shorts but with baggies over the top and a looser fitting jersey?
Stuff that's designed for MTB seems to be a bit baggier. (eg. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/fox-baseline-sh ... sery-2012/).0 -
How far do you ride?0

The cheapo LIDL cycling tops are fairly baggy, at least the ones I bought a few years ago are. Certainly not anything like a skinsuit! As for shorts there are plenty of baggy overshorts on the marketDo not write below this line. Office use only.0

wear whatever is comfortable and doesn't make you self conscious. Maybe trackies or basketball/beach/holiday type shorts and a t shirt. You can get reasonably priced lycra shorts or cycling specific underwear with a bum pad to go under your more normal looking legwear. depends how sweaty you get or how often you feel like washing your kit for the tophalf. You could try either a merino wool top; comfy wicks sweat very nicely and really doesn't smell; or some of the 'technical' sports tops you can get. I'll ride in t-shirts, football tops, Hi-Viz workmans polo shirts, Aldi and Lidl cycle tops. As a cyclist without endless money, I like Aldi softshells quite a bit, they're exceedingly good for the ~£15 they cost.
cycling doesn't have to be about looking like Cav, despite what some of the more hardcore roadies and their rules may have you think0 -
When I commute, I wear 3/4 shorts and a l/s top which is a size bigger than normal no matter if if its a road bike or my mtb. I'm only going to work, not a club run so I don't care what people think. Just enjoy the ride.Cannondale Trail 6 - crap brakes!

I just wear my work gear on the road bike. It's only a bicycle like any other.0

Rather depends if your changing when you get to work, which depends on the work and distance.
On days off I'll ride into central london 40 mile round trip I don't need lycra though clearly i'd not go into a smart meeting with out a change.0
