Hi
I have a Specialized Elite 2012 which I would like to lower the stem by removing a spacer. On my Pina i just took one from underneath and placed it on top until i got something comfortable. It seems that you cannot do this with the Spesh or am i being a complete Knoob?.I have played around with the adjusting shim but still not happy.I suffer from 'Duck Syndrome'.6ft tall with a 30" leg and on long rides i am getting a bit of shoulder ache.I dont get this with the Pina and as this bike is new to me as an insurance replacement i am sure its just a bit of adjustemnt needed to get it spot on.
I an mot Bigbee,Ezy or a n other!

Sounds a bit odd that you can't swap a spacer from under to over the stem.... unless the steerer has been cut radically.?
It may also be a design feature of that Spesh stem of course.. I tend to use Ritchie or FSA finishing kit.
However, just get a small 5mm spacer if you havent already got 1 to hand.. as you will need at least 1 spacer above in order to tighten up the steerer.
If still unsure post a pic and Workshop is always the best place for tips and hints without any danger of unwanted comments.

Yeah pics would be good. If you take a spacer from below the stem and put it back above then the overall stack is the same height so I don't get why there's an issue.

I'm 5'11" with a 34" inside leg. Maybe we could arrange some sort of swap deal?

I think its the design of the stem as on my other bike with an ITM stem swapping from top to bottom is no probs but with the spesh it doesnt seem to work. The top cap doesnt fit over the spacers

Godders-if leg transplants become available we have a deal!

If you have a specialised stem, and in particular one of the adjustable angle ones, you won't be able to put an spacers between the top of the stem and the cap due to the design of the stem, and the top cap has be fitted touching the stem to keep the angles right and not have any problems. You could always cut the steerer down a bit to get the position you want, or buy another stem without any of the angle adjust and special top cap tech.

o.k, Thanks for info. Will look for another stem as I have the one with the adjustable angle shim.
