Tapered forks in a 1.5 headtube logistics

Not sure if this has been covered before (I tried searching but it didn't come up with anything usefull).
I have a frame with a 1.5 headtube and I currently have an FSA big fat pig reducer headset in there. I'm looking at buying a set of forks with a tapered steerer.I know it is possible to buy a new headset to make this fit my frame. But while researching suitable headsets, I came across a thread on another forum that implied that with my current headset I could just replace the existing crown race and save myself the £40+ for a new headset.
Does anyone know if this is true? Is it the case that crown race and bearings need replacing or is it just a load of rubish that some has come up with and posted to confuse me? :?

can you take a pic of the existing crown race for us? It may be a reducer, rather than the cup being reduced.0

Right have just taken the fork out here is a pick of the crown race.

Yep, is a reducer crown race (see how the bearing race is at the edge? Rather than closer to the middel and into a redcued headset cup), so a new FSA Big Fat Pig 1.5 crown race should fit and solve your problem.0

Awesome, thanks this has made me very happy as it means probably a few quid for a crown race rather than £40 for a new headset.
Thanks for reply so quickly both times.0
