Morning Scuttlers
Uncomfortable nights sleep, but feeling spurred on by yesterdays bad news, it really makes you think not to waste a second. So with that in mind, hope you all have a great day, and i hope over the coming days we can get back to normal in here as the best tribute to Kaise and what he was about.
In thought of what the crudcatcher can do in tribute to one of our own, I struck on an idea yesterday. Over the next year or so there are redevelopments at Cwmcarn going on such as a new dh going in, but also a new trail centre at Gethin Woods near Merthyr (but in fairness anywhere would be good), wouldn't it be nice if we could, instead of a ride day go and have a volunteer trail build day (or return visits in the longer term) and ask the question whether cognation may consider calling an epic section of one of these trails "The Kaiser" you know a bit with big sticks and ditches on it.
Obviously this is just an idea at this stage and I wanted to explore the viability of this before asking his Fiance and family if they thought it appropriate
so anyway....thoughts, and good morning

Sounds like a top Idea Gaz hope you can pull it off
work, work and work0 -
Murning cheeswands.
Gaz and i chatted last night about this idea, i think it would be very fitting and it would need to have a "Boom" in it somewhere.
Not a lot planned today just the odd site visit, but i didnt sleep very well last night so think i might "Catch up" on that at some point?
No point planning a ride for tonight as
1) i'll be on my own for sure
2) i dont have a boat
Driving in this morning was all over the place aquaplaning, fun but dangerous.
Onwards to coffee's and porridge0 -
Morning Losers!
Sounds like a good idea to me Gaz, if you can pull it off. He'd be chuffed to bits with that.
Today, work. Nothing exciting at all.

Obviously, I'm nor going to put this idea out on fb yet as I want to explore the feasibility of it first, both in terms of people wanting to help and us being able to actually get a section0

Great idea Gazler
Today is the first day of the financial year so in early ready for the grief, which carries on from yesterday when the current wife locked herself out of the house after picking the kids up from school. Turns out she didn't understand that I will get back as soon as I can, meant 7.450 -
i dont think they all ride but worth a look

Nice idea Gaz, sounds a fitting gesture. Hope we can get this arranged at some point
Today is work meh, followed by the gym, and hopefully a decent night sleeps today..
This is all! :roll:0 -
Morning all,
Furniture deliveries today, so will have lots of work all through the day building up a whole bedroom, then a living room as well. On the good side, I have informed wife there will be alcohol consumed, so she needs to prepare herself for hearings lots of profanity as I do stuff wrong while building, which is enevitable. A few meetings dispersed through the day as well, so will be a long day.0 -
Morning, Hinney hounds,
Liking Gaz's idea, a lot. Yes, any section we work on would have to contain ditches and big sticks. ...........and a large, bermed corner consequently named 'Right Hooker' - possibley wide enough to allow people to take it sideways.
When the weather improves, I'm heading back to Cut Gate for a ride, too. Not really for any memorial purpose, but just because Kaise introduced me to the loop and it was a b****y good day out. 8)
Anyhoo, work m'eh today should feature some high-speed camera shenanigans, and a short meeting later. Once home I'm going shopping - I have a house full of pasta but no vegetable matter, aside from me.
Lucked it on the ride in this morning - was peddling along through spots of rain. Get into the building and lock the bike up - boom! It was like the local reservoir had been cut into thin vertical strips and dropped out the sky. Impecable timing!
Onwards! To coffee! And laser-based f**kwittery! How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

Know what you mean Gazlar, spent much of the day yesterday feeling down but also inspired to go on more adventures and do something worthwhile. TFN said "lets go to the atlas mountains and spend 5 days pushing, carrying and riding through remote villages for a full days descent. On the way we can help build an orphanage" I think I might marry him.
Naming a section for Kaise would be great, definitely find out if it's do-able. I for one will be finding something to tie to my bike in memorium this weekend.
Usual work/gym day for me, with less procrastinating as I actually have work to do.

Morning All,
More determined to make the most of life after yesterday - so I need to get my ar$e in gear generally. Got a few jobs to do, then swimming to help get my shoulder sorted, then its time to finish the CV off so I can start job hunting this month."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." Morning bumders
Nice idea there Gaz.
Into uni today. List of things I've been putting off for ages. I'm determined to get them done. Might go out tonight, might not. If the weather improves I might go for a run later.

I've only been floating around here for a little bit, but the comments you guys have left Kaiser are a real determent to his personality! Gaz and VW that would be a bloody fantastic idea....Hope you get all the support you need!
M'ning back, sack and crack waxers,
T'was a surprisingly pleasant evening last night bearing in mind everywhere around here is on flood alert! Apparently some guy in the next town over was riding a Jet ski through the high street?!
Today will be a day of Me'h. I plan on sitting at the desk putting the hood up and headphones in. I don’t want to communicate with the rest of the world until lunch.

Hey gang,
Had a cracking ride yesterday afternoon, sun shone down which was strangely fitting.
I'm in on the dig idea, where ever it maybe its local area to me. Hope everyone is ok and feeling a little inspired to use there time wisely.
An unnormal group hug from me.0 -
Ok guys, I'll get an email sent this afternoon to cognation to see if its possible and how we can go about it. It would be cool if we can actually put something in place so its less of a memorial and more of a lasting legacy in kaisers honour. So this could be a section on a new trail that we help with, a new route on an old trail or just a new feature on an existing run. It would be cool though to go and lift a spade and a beer to his memory. Don't suppose anyone has any contact with anyone in the know, maybe Welshkev through hs club, I dunno? Just to add some weight to the words I'll be sending later on.0

morning chundercu*ts.
Nice rainy ride to work today, with the sind behind me. Something tells me it's going to be 'orrible ont he way home though. Again.
Got to fix the old computer that runs our recording console today, then try and diagnose an issue with our main monitors.0 -
I've got a friend that digs regularly for Single Traction, but I think they only build oop North. I'm sure any digging group you get in touch with will read an email.
I'd love to help with a dig too, bit of a trek, but would love the opportunity to contribute. It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

I was thinking get back out on the bike more and give a bit back, oh and also make the effort to meet more of you guys, as I've yet to meet a crudder that I haven't liked, even kickingmule ........but this is good also.
I really want to ride the Darn Helen route, maybe I could do it dressed as Ronald MCDonald?0 -

Yeah, I'm sure they will, just always helps to have someone who can help persuade and have a bit of0 -
Sounds like a great idea Gaz, a fitting way to remember Kaise. I'm pretty sure the guys at summit have something to do with trail building, will pop down to see if I can find out. Would love to help on a dig! As the rest of us, I was pretty bummed out for most of yesterday, bit of a shock, and a reminder that life needs to be lived to the full.
As for today, I shall be working on a blasted assignment until the early hours of the morning no doubt, so little to no chance of a night out or any riding0 -

The following Email has been sent to cognation, I'll keep you posted as to any developments
Hi
My name is Gaz Derry and I am writing to you as part, and on behalf of the members of the Crudcatcher, which is part of the Bikeradar forums. You may be aware that over the weekend, a young mountain biker, Alex Kaiser, tragically passed away at the age of 28, while sleeping in his van when attending the Rheola DH. Alex was an active and much liked contributor to the forum and his presence is already being missed on the messageboards. Alex was also a comittee member of the Bristol Mountain Bike Club and was passionate about mountain biking. It is testament to the guy that his untimely passing has been equally felt by people who had met him, as well as people who had only had the opportunity to talk with him through internet forums.
Today a discussion on the Bikeradar forum has started on what could be done to honour his memory, not so much as a memorial, but as a lasting legacy in his name. He rode in the South Wales area prolifically from his home in Bristol and we wondered if you could help us to do something to remember him by on the trails which he rode. With the developments at Cwmcarn, Afan and Gethin Forest, we wondered whether you may be able to name something “THE KAISER” in his memory, a section of trail or even a feature such as a rock garden or north shore. The members of the forum would be happy to come along to volunteer trail building days where possible (as the membership is spread across the U.K and further) to help in order to put something back into the sport in memory of Alex. Perhaps we could also raise money to place a sign or something similar at the start of that area, should you be able to facilitate our request.
I fully understand if this would not be possible, but remain hopeful
Kind Regards
Gaz Derry0
