shop around dude!
You're obviously on a tight budget - so shop around and look for some bargains.
CRC would be a good place to start I guess - free delivery and all that"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

btw - if that really is your maximum budget I'd get as cheap as I could find for the last four items and spend whatever's left on the helmet."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Shorts £15: http://www.dare2b.com/buy/buckeroo-short-183161
Gloves £10: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=57611
Glasses £7.50 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bolle-Contour ... 1519wt_954
Jersey £15: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=79420
Helmet £40: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/HEG ... hex_helmet
Total: £87.50
The point is really, that it's perfectly possible to buy this stuff fairly cheaply from a variety of places. As others say, if you're going to splash out on anything it should be the helmet - would suggest going to a store and trying them on to work out which one will be most comfortable.0 -
again^^^^ sound advice try before you buy with the helmet as everyone has diffenrt shaped heads...www.bearbackbiking.com

For eyewear you could go for Bolle safety glasses to save some money over 'sunglasses' - might not be as stylish as Oakleys but if they are going to get abraded wth fine dust or covered in mud then saftey glasses would very well - purely as an example..

The German supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl often do cycling bits n bobs - you should be able to get a pair of gel padded gloves under a tenner from there, and a cycling shirt for around the same (Crane sports branded). If you are prepared to shop around enough then the internet cycle shops already listed (plus wheelies, tredz ) will often have something on sale. Sports direct are selling off last years designs of Muddyfox clothing - shirts are £8.99 + postage and are OK quality, their jackets are OK too for a tenner but not breathable !
Bell helmets are available from Asda - they might not be as stylish as some others but they aren't too bad for ca £20, although paying £40 might be a better longer term helmet investment (Giro/Specialized)
Overall though you really want to buy as good an item as possible first time round - buying cheap might just mean buying again next year depenedent upon usage.0 -
Aldi mentioned above ^^^ so check out the Aldi sale from this Thursday. I've bought a few things over the years and can't fault it for the money. Ignore the brand - some of it is actually pretty good.

Thanks for the link - at that price got to be worth a try, so i ordered soem alst night0 -
Just to update this thread..
I ordered some of the buckeroo shorts from dare2b; based on their sizing guide I opted for xl size based on my 36" waist. On arrival the waistband was marked as 38" and even fully adjusting the waistband to it's smallest size the outer short was still way too big (more like 38-39" ). Exchanged them for a large size, labelled 36" and the outer short still needs some small adjustment to reduce the size.
Last week I also picked up some cycling gloves from Aldi, for £3.49. I'll not say they are comparable to £15-20 gloves from brands as I have limited exposure to those products, but they are perfectly functional for shorter rides or as a spare pair0 -
Also check out SportsDirect.com, they have lots of decent clothing and accessories at cheap prices.

Can't comment on most of their kit, but the Muddyfox jacket i got a week or so back isn't breathable (as already pointed out by a previous poster). Its OK as an extra layer for a short rain shower or that last few Km on the trial when the light is fading and the temperature is dropping though. Their gloves and lycra shorts looked OK in the shop.0 -
Thanks for the replys my budget could be around £150-£200 if i wait another month should i do this bearing in mind i just want to get out and ride!0
