Flying Apple

Was out for a ride the other day and was coming up a road in Edinburgh, quite a nice area, (Morningside - if anyone knows it). It is a student area, but many families also. Anyway - as I was cycling up, this apple absolutely shot passed my head - just missing me. It exploded as it hit the pavement - so was thrown with quite a bit of force. I didn't stop but looked around and no one was on the street, so I can only assume it came out of one of the tenement flats. Obviously aimed at me.

Had it hit me, I would definitely have come off my bike, along with having a bit of pain. Can't believe folks would do this sort of thing. May seem funny to them, but if I had come off there was a car coming up behind me which could have run over me also.

Has anyone else witnessed crazy behaviour like this before? Anyone suffered abuse when out on their bike?

Shot by a BB gun. Obviously quite a long way away, didn't break the skin or anything. Decent marksmanship ;)

Had that two or three times. It was only kids each time.

Give 'em a few years, and they'll be in cars...

    Were you wearing team kit?
  • I was whipped by some pikey in a flat bed truck. Slowed coming up behind me and the passenger leant out the window with an electrical cord and whipped me right across the lower back/ top of my arse ! Stung like a bastard and left me with a huge welt. I was furious but it was a long fast stretch of road so no chance of catching the scumbags.

If this happens straight round to the police - no second thoughts thats a serious attack and could have been even worse

Morningside is a nice area and wouldn't expect anything like that over there - Pilton, Oxgangs, you would need an armour over there
I so far never had anything like that happen to me, except some drunks shouting as I go pass them. I suppose we have to remember that some people will never grow up...
As for the whipping, I would take the reg of the truck and call police straight away. That is serious.

Oh trust me, straight to the 5 0 to report and yes, could have been a lot worse and I could have ended up in the hedge or middle of the road!

Had a banana skin thrown at me by passing car once, not quite the same impact as an apple but still took me by surprise. Could have been a slippy situation :)

I had an apple core thrown at me by an oncoming van a while back. As it was the Summer (remember that?!) I had my jersey unzipped and the core ended up in the jersey.

What the driver didn't know was that there were roadworks round the corner so I swung round and caught him up whilst he waited in the queue of traffic and 'passed' him his core back through his open window

My cousin used to have a 4th floor flat in Morningside from which we used to throw haribo onto the top of double decker buses (harder than it sounds).

If only Wiggle had been around we could have saved a fortune, and then blamed them.

Bottle of water (full) twice by 20 something yobs and the one that amazed me most, a yummy mummy type made eye contact in the wing mirror as I was overtaking (she was stationary approaching a roundabout) and flicked her cigarette out of the window at me. Delightful lady.

    Luckily most people miss.

Same for me this winter, except it was from a car that was slowly overtaking me so at very short range (2m perhaps). Left a hole in my jersey and a huge and very painful bruise on my lower back but fortunately didn't break the skin. Unfortunately by the time I'd wobbled to a stop and realised what was going on the car was too far away for me to get the registration number.

There are some really stupid people out there.

Pork pie thrown at me whilst I stopped to take phone call whilst out on a ride.

Bruised and painful. Like most people, I was so shocked that I didn't catch number plate.

Thankful it was only a mini round one rather than a monster cube one with the egg in the middle - one of those could have taken my head off!

Haven't been in a situation like this before so I can't really share any stories. The closest I've came is having a bunch of younger teens take the piss a few times, can be expected as it isn't the average sport that you can catch a 15 year old doing.

No. I was just outside Arsenal's training ground. This may explain a lot..................
