Pedals, shoes and cleats?

I have just bought a Rockrider 8.1 2011.

It is fitted with Wellgo 823 WPD clipless pedals. Do I need special shoes and cleats?

If so, any recommendations please?

Thanks

Yes spd shoes. Did they not give you the cleats for the pedals?

Only ordered bike today, so not delivered yet. I will check. So any SPD shoe will do and cleats fit in?

If your not to keen on cleats, you could always change them for flat pedals like I did!

Yes, the cleats did arrive with the bike. Much harder to fit and see how they work but that was me being stupid. After a quick look on you tube, the penny dropped, easy. Now, just a case of getting use to use them! Any tips, or is it just practice? I have some flat pedals just in case, whilst I get used to the bike.

I've recently changed over to SPDs for trail riding and wouldn't go back to flats. Just practice clipping in and out on a quiet bit of road and keep the tension bolts set to loose. Make sure you look at cleat positioning tips too, to avoid any knee pain. Certainly on a hard tail, over bumpy ground they make a big difference, as well as those wet slippery climbs...
