Sportive and Marathon

  • Eddie Izzard, with minimal training, ran 50 odd marathons in 50 odd days. The first took him about 10 hours (that's less than walking pace). His comment was that, after about 4 days, his body suddenly woke up and 'got it'. As each marathon progressed, he got more and more used to it. Even so, I wouldn't like to cycle 100 miles 50 days in a row, regardless of whether my body 'got it'or not.

And I think the point about time and effort made above is tremendously important. I reckon I could, if my life was at stake, run a marathon tomorrorow. I might be running at walking pace and take forever but I'd do it. Ask me to ride 100 miles over challenging ground in around 4 hours, as the poster stated above, and I would cave in without a doubt.
