56cm frame is OK for 6ft rider.

To get the exact frame size measure from the center of the bottom bracket (where the cranks fit in) to the top of the seat tube (where the seat post fits in)

Center to Center (C-C) is similar to the C-T measurement that Ineedalager mentions except the top of the seat tube is defined by the intersection of the center of the top tube and center of the seat tube and the centre of the bottom bracket.

This measurement is more common among European manufacturers, so depends on what frame it is.

Take the measurements either way and compare with another bike that you can sit on is the safest method.
my isetta is a 300cc bike
