Specialized Allez Elite 2009 vs Allez Sport 2012?

Hey all,
Complete newbie to Road riding, currently own a Sirrus Sport, but regret getting that and want a roadie!
Anyway, I've been looking at 2 options... I can either get an Allez Sport Compact 2012 for around £6-700 (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCProduct.jsp?spid=62282&scid=1101&scname=Road), or a 2009 Allez Elite, in very good condition, only 200 miles usage, for £500 (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?sid=09Allez)
Now to me, the Elite seems a no-brainer, and way better than the other model which is more expensive. Have heard some things about a less aggressive riding style on the 2009 Elite, but I'm unsure. Am hoping to paricipate in road riding regularly, so want one that'll last and not hinder my performance (I know the engine is more important than the bike, but every little helps!)
The only thing I could think as a downside is that the Elite is a 54cm frame. I'm 5'11, so would this be far too small for me to ride? (My Sirrus is a 61 I think, which is WAY too big). So which one should I choose?

Nice spec on the elite, however it looks like spesh recon max of 5'10 on the 54 frame and you need one that fits.Why not find a shop that sells spesh and try one for size.Ridley Boreas

I am 6"1' and ride a Allez double same geometry as the Allez sport 58cm XL I was on the border line between 56 and 58. I tried them both and choose the 58cm. I would think a 54 is to small for you and 56 would be better. I don't find the Allez geometry to sporty and have done a 73 mile ride comfortably on it.
Are you able to ride the Elite before you buy it because even if it's a better spec if it's to small you a never going to be happy with it. As said above go to a Spesh dealer and try both size frames and ride them before you decide.0 -
