measuring outer gear cable

Hello all,

I've got to measure up and cut some outer gear cable for a new bike I'm building.
For the rear mech to seat stay section is it fine to measure it up in the position the mech is in without any tension on it?
I've noticed that as the mech would shift into the larger sprockets the mech moves downwards thus shortening the distance of the outer gear cable, and was concerned this may cause a significant bend in the cable.

Can anyone advise?

Put the mech in the middle oh and have a nice sweep to it.

See the info on Sheldon. And just check th movement before cutting it.

you can see the hole for the ferrule in the mech and also in the top right end there's the guide on the seat stay. This is the area where an outer cable needs to be measured up for.

nicklouse - I'll see how things look with the mech in the middle sprocket.
