confused about headsets

i am building a training bike along side my current bike. i am going to need a headset but i am getting confused! its threadless but i don't really know what i am buying, my caad has a star nut, i would like to stay with this rather than compression. so if when i look at headsets online if it doesn't say its compression am i to assume its a star nut?

Star nuts are for Alumiium steerer tubes, you need a compression bung for a carbon steerer to prevent damage.

been searching around and think i understand more now, could have done with looking at things in person but bit of googling has given me enough knowledge i think!

Firstly, you need a compression bung with carbon forks but they don't come supplied with headsets - you need to buy them separately. The size and configuration of the headset will depend on the frame so hard to make any recommendation otherwise.
