Front Lights

considering the night ride London2Brighton and if we sign up I will need some form of front light (I have rear light).

Bearing in mind I don't normally cycle in the dark, I don't want to spend a fortune but at the same time it does need to help me see the road and not just let others see me.

Can anyone recommend something relatively cheap that would do the trick for a one off?

I've got the deal extreme (magicshine) bike light and the torches and the torches are more reliable and versatile.
I cracked open the battery pack on my old dead laptop so now I've got more batteries than I'll ever need
