So there is a Tube strike starting at 16:00 today. Any increase in the amount of nodders on the road, or has the rain put them off?

Maintenance staff only - would only have any notable impact if it was drivers and station staff. It aint, so it wont.

Why do people go on strike when it has no impact?

It will have an impact: maintenance won't get done, so an already busy schedule will be put further behind => more signal and points failures => more fed up commuters.

@mattcroad: err, you don't get paid for strike days.

I didn't realise it was 'just' maintenance staff and that everything would still be running OK. I was interested in whether rain trumps nodders even when there is a Tube strike, but it appears that this strike has gone of with a whimper rather than a bang.

    there wasn't in Manchester :D

*puts socialist hat on* lets not denigrate maintenence staff or their right/perceived need to strike. things would grind to a halt without them soon enough. We can't all be the centre forward in the team. *climbs off soapbox*

Note the punctation marks before and after the word in bold.
Maintenance staff are the domestiques of the the public transport system.
And by domestiques I mean servants.
And by servants I mean cleaners.
